General Council Values
The 53rd General Council of the Assemblies of God is just
around the corner (Aug. 3-7 in Orlando, Fla.). Delegates and visitors will be
convening from all over the nation — as well as some from overseas
— for this special time together. A fresh format will highlight the
numerous activities.
Our general superintendent, Dr. George O. Wood, and the
entire Executive Leadership Team have been focusing on five very important
values for our Fellowship. These core values will permeate everything that
happens at Orlando.
The Pentecostal Evangel has been featuring articles that
emphasize these values for some time now. We thought that General Council would
be the ideal time for additional emphasis. You will find in these pages five
special features, each one clearly demonstrating one of the core values. Begin
reading the conversation with Dr. Wood on page 6, where each value is
discussed.
You may have noticed something else about this issue. Along
with the fresh approach to Council, we have decided to roll out a fresh look for
the magazine. Along with the new logo, you will begin to see other changes in
coming weeks.
What will not change is the nature or quality of the
content. Our mission has remained unchanged since the magazine was founded in
1913, one year before the first General Council of the AG: “To fulfill the
threefold mission of the church; to propagate the gospel of Jesus Christ; to
give proper emphasis to Pentecostal distinctives, including the baptism in the
Holy Spirit and its desired effects in the lives of believers; and to
strengthen the Fellowship.”
This mission is still relevant nearly a century after the
first issue rolled off the press.
